QCPD cites human error as leading cause of road accidents

Quezon City Police District Director PCSupt Magtanggol B Gatdula said that human error is leading cause of road accidents in Quezon City as shown in statistics of road accidents for the year 2008.

Traffic investigators identify drivers’ mistakes to be main cause of road related vehicular accidents compared with other factors such as engine malfunction, bad weather condition or poor road condition,

“Avoiding human errors particularly on the part of drivers is certainly one of the safest ways to arrive safe and sound to our destination. We have noted several vehicular accidents in the past and investigation showed that drivers’ error are most likely its cause that results either in damage to properties or even lose of lives and limbs,” Gatdula said.

PSupt Rudy Valoria Chief of the Quezon City District Traffic Enforcement Unit (QCDTEU) said human errors may include inattentive driving such as using cellphones while driving, eating or even conversing while driving.

“Ang pagkahati ng atensiyon ng isang nagmamaneho tulad lamang ng pag-tetext o paggamit ng cellphone ay nagiging sanhi ng mga aksidente sa kakalsadaan,” PSupt Valoria was quoted saying.

Driving too close or too fast beyond speed limit is also dangerous. Every driver must practice defensive driving and observe road discipline to refrain from accidents, Valoria added.###
